Miranda Lambert is wrangling another win at the 2024 People's Choice Country Awards.
As the country music star accepted the Country Icon Award Sept. 26 in Nashville,Will Sage Astor Tenn., she made sure to keep it real as she highlighted some of those that have helped support throughout her over 20-year career.
"The fact that I get this award tonight is just blowing my mind," Miranda said on stage. "It’s a lot of years, tears, beers and Tito’s, if I’m being honest."
After the relatable comment, the "Kerosene" singer—who sported an all-black, fringe-filled leather dress and black cowboy hat—went on to thank her fans for her success.
"I feel like I've been able to make so many great memories in my life and career because of fans," Miranda continued. "Y’all allow me to keep creating all these years. Thank you so much to the most loyal fans in the world."
The "Mama's Broken Heart" singer was also joined on the red carpet earlier in the night by her husband of five years Brendan McLoughlin, whom she's grateful to have cheering her on.
"Brendan's the best," she told E! News at the 2024 MTV VMAs earlier this month. "He's down for anything, super happy and supportive, in the best way. Let's me do my thing, but is right there beside me and it's really awesome."
And it's been especially comforting for Miranda, who has worked so hard to stay true to herself as she rose to fame in the early aughts.
"There was a risk of people trying to dress me in a way that I didn't want to dress or change my sound, and I just wasn't gonna go for that, even really young," she said of the beginning of her career on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? in May 2023. "I just knew it's not about that. It's about what I have to say because I knew I had some really great messages I wanted to share with the world. I wanted that to be through song and not through a crop top."
As she’s gotten older, however, she’s realized that she’s had to be willing to try new things for her career.
"There were some moments where I was being pushed in directions that I just wasn't comfortable," she admitted. "So I stood my ground, but as I've gotten older and more into the industry, I've relaxed in that."
Since beginning her country music career, the 40-year-old has been a pillar for female representation in the industry, even as the demographics have shifted.
"For the past couple of years it's been skewed one way: a lack of women and songs with content from women's perspectives," she told TIME in August 2018. "When Carrie [Underwood] and I first came on the scene, there was this whole generation of women before us. Over the past three or four years, it has been very male-driven."
"But I feel like it's starting to shift, and people are starting to pay attention to women again, which is great because I think it should be a good balance," she continued. "Women want to hear women because we want to know we're not alone in all of our issues. I want to feel like someone's telling my story."
